TDMMO President announced that “Tehran Neighborhood Risk Mitigation Plan against Natural Hazards” has been selected as Deserving Initiatives of the 5th Guanhzhou Award for Urban Innovation.
With announcement of initial assessment in 5th International Guangzhou Award which is one of the most valid events in urban Innovation field, he stated that TDMMO plan entitled “Preparation of Tehran Neighborhood Risk Mitigation Plan against Natural hazards” has been selected for the list of deserving initiatives in this events.
Dr. karami Mohammadi added that a total of 273 initiatives from 175 cities and local governments of in 60 countries and regions applied for the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation and among them 45 projects selected as Deserving Initiatives.
TDMMO President said that the City of Guangzhou- China, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and Metropolis are supporters of this event and Local Government for Sustainability (ICLEI), Cities Today, C40 and ECO City Builders were among partners of the said event.
He reiterated that the goal of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guanhzhou Award) is to recognize innovations in improving the social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and local government worldwide, to highlight exemplary models of innovative policies and practices in local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the new urban agendas, to motivate cities and local authorities to further promote innovation and to learn from each other, to improve city governance and to promote sharing of lessons learned for urban innovations between cities, regions, countries and thematic areas.
Regarding Tehran Neighborhood Risk Mitigation Plan against Natural Hazards, TDMMO president added that in this plan the focus in on Tehran three important hazards i.e. earthquake, flood and land slide. This project was a neighborhood based project which has been implemented with the cooperation of Tehran NGOs that are active in disaster management fields and officials at municipal districts level through convening joint cooperative meetings among these groups
Also, he mentioned that from 45 long listed projects, Technical Committee of the event selected 15 as short listed ones. Ms. Sylvia Croese, Chair of the Technical Committee of the 5th Guangzhou Award, the Senior Researcher of the South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning from University of the Witwatersrand, reported on the initial assessment and announced the list of shortlisted cities.
The 15 shortlisted cities of the 5th Guangzhou Award are: City of Unley, Australia; Wien, Austria; São José dos Pinhais, Brazil; Chongqing Municipality, China; Capital Region of Denmark, Denmark; Quito, Ecuador; All 114 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Odisha, India; Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), India; Bandung City Government, Indonesia; Union of Municipalities, Lebanon; Municipality Of Antananarivo (Commune Urbaine d'Antananarivo, Madagascar; Breda, Netherlands; Departmental Council of Saint Louis, Senegal; City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa; Los Angeles, USA
