Increase in resilience of the capital by implementing new risk monitoring plans

Referring to the role of resilience in disaster management, the mayor of Tehran said: "In the current period of urban management, appropriate equipment has been provided to reduce Tehran's risk."

Tehran Mayor, Dr. Pirouz Hanachi, at the unveiling and exploitation ceremony of the latest achievements of the Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management Organization (TDMMO), which was held on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the organization, stated: We should thank those who worked to form and expand this organization. Today, the situation of this organization is different from the past. However, the level of resilience in disaster situations is not high and we are at risk.

With taking to account the role of resilience in disaster management, the mayor of Tehran added that in the current period of urban management, appropriate equipment has been provided to reduce Tehran's risk. He continued that mitigation and risk reduction, education and training and culturalization are the measures that should be done and in order for this process to be continued, risk monitoring is required. Dr. Hanachi stated that resiliency is an important issue all over the world and the role of education in schools has a significant impact on the field of disaster management, and through institutionalization of disaster management related education in schools preparedness can be replaced with fear.

Also, while presenting TDMMO performance report, Reza Karami Mohammadi, TDMMO president, announced that with the aim to move toward prediction of risks and increasing Tehran resiliency, purchase of infrastructural equipment increased and platform for continuous risk monitoring provided.

He pointed out that currently Tehran accidents are monitoring by 173 sensors and added in recent years, by making structural changes and providing a platform for continuous monitoring in the TDMMO, risk prediction and increasing resiliency became possible by hazard monitoring desks.

Referring to the results of joint research with Shahid Beheshti University, Dr. Karami Mohammadi stated that Districts 1 and 4 of Tehran are at higher risk of earthquake but the vulnerability and damage will be higher in southern parts of city.

The unveiling ceremony of 7 new achievements of the TDMMO, was held with presence of Tehran Mayor, Head of the National Disaster Management Organization and some representatives of specialized organizations.
